“Service to mankind is service to God” says our beloved founder Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Followers of the teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba in Lagos, Nigeria have been regularly organizing service activities like providing food, water, medicines and facilitating hospital visits to the needy Nigerians in the outskirts of Lagos city. During one such regular service activity at Bamboo village near Ajah, Lagos, in the year 1999, the headmaster of a nearby village school was inspired by our committed loving service to the villagers. He came up with a request if we could engage in providing basic education to deserving children in the village as there were not many schools and all the children were not into regular schooling. Very soon the Sathya Sai Organization of Nigeria sprang into action and commenced the school project.

Volunteers served whole heartedly and were not only ready to provide education to the needy but also were willing to collect children who were into street hawking of peanuts and coconuts for living. Children that were wandering aimlessly and wasting time were also picked up and introduced to regular school going habit. This was appreciated and encouraged by the community. In September 2000, we started the school informally at Bamboo village, Ikota, Ajah with a student strength of 30 catering to classes up to primary 3. Initially the school did not have its own premises. Classes were conducted in a borrowed premise of a local church.
